Yes, the process of disputing inaccurate or erroneous information on your credit report is legal, and it is legal to hire a company to send those dispute letters on your behalf.

Credit repair is the process of sending letters to the credit bureaus. Legally, they have 35 business days to respond to our disputes and conduct an investigation. One round of letters can take 45-50 days to see any sort of result. Our credit repair contracts last 1 year.

We cannot provide you with legal advice on how to handle this case, but we can connect you with our consumer attorney network.

We can guide you through how to handle the conversation with a debt collector or original creditor, but we do not negotiate the settlements ourselves. Credit Theory All-Inclusive clients have access to our Debt Settlement Playbook, a resource built for these situations.

We are not a debt consolidation company. If you have questions about how to manage your current debt, we have a video series breaking down your options. Paying down debt boils down to 2 simultaneous actions: Reducing your expenses + increasing your income. This is the fastest way to eliminate debt.

Each credit bureau has access to different information. As a result, different information creates different scores. The advantage of a 3-bureau report is readily identifying discrepancies: just because you don’t have a collection on one report doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist if another bureau is reporting that collection.

The honest answer is that it depends — on your goals, your situation and how much work you need done. We want you to create your own individual game plan to enable us to focus on the areas that will make the most impact. We do recommend that you commit to at least 4-6 months for better results.
